Headies awards shunned by several nominated artistes, eventual winners

Several top artistes boycotted the Headies awards 2016 which held into the wee hours of Friday at Eko Convention Center, Lagos.

Kiss Daniel, Olamide, Patoranking, Young John, Clarence Peters, Ill Bliss, Bez were some of the winners who failed to show up to receive their plaques.

Many of the artistes had no one to collect awards on their behalf, hence, the presenters were more often than not, forced to graciously accept the plaques – till someone eventually surfaces.

Artistes from some of Nigeria’s leading record labels were conspicuously missing at the awards ceremony.

Mavin, Triple MG, YBNL and Chocolate City artistes failed to make it to the Headies awards.

While members of the Mavin crew flew into Côte d’ivoire for a concert on the same date as the Headies, YBNL artistes are preparing for the third instalment of Olamide Live in Concert (OLIC).

Their respective engagements notwithstanding, the Headies awards had been communicated to everyone weeks before the scheduled day.

Mavin and YBNL, led by Don Jazzy and Olamide respectively, were engaged in a social media spat after the 2015 Headies.

Olamide voiced his disappointment on stage after his artiste, Lil Kesh, lost the ‘Next Rated’ category to Reekado Banks, a Mavin artiste.

The fight was later taken to Twitter where it became a trending topic all day long.
